Introduction:- "What attractions are near us..."

THE pub and hotel is set in some of the most romantic countryside in Merseyside, criss-crossed by canals, cycle paths, horse riding tracks and nature trails and also with some of the UK's most important golf courses around 15 minutes drive or about 2 minutes by air. Yes, the Inn does have its own helicopter landing area! Not only that but did you know that the pub is set in one of the many areas said to be the heart of King Arthur's Excalibur land? This historic wet land is equally important today because it holds many nature reserves. Two are world renowned. The most famous is Martin Mere, which is one of the most important reserves in Europe for wild fowl and waders. Mere Sands Wood Nature Reserve, whilst not so well known as its neighbour, also plays a vital role and is close by. When you visit the area and enjoy its tranquillity, it hard to realise that Southport, Preston and Liverpool are very near by! Southport being the nearest, at around 15 minutes drive time. Liverpool and Preston can be reached within the hour.

If you have children, the Inn is just down the road from The Wind Mill Farm, within 3 minutes drive time. Farmer Ted's Farm Park, which is open all year round, can be reached in about 10 minutes by car. You also have the West Lancs. Light Railway a car journey of about 10 minutes away, plus the Lakeside Miniature Railway and the other Southport attractions. You also have the Leisure Lakes, that offer all types of events all year round. They are only 5 minutes away from The Martin Inn.

For all age groups, there are the many attractions in Liverpool and Preston. Do not forget that Liverpool is Capital of Culture for 2008!   Also on our doorstep is Ormskirk and Southport, both about 10 to 15 mins. travel time from us, depending on traffic.

Also within an hour and a half driving time you have Blackpool. Manchester can be reached in around the same time.

Last but not least, you also have the world famous National Trust Red Squirrel Nature Reserve and coastline at Formby Point to explore! This is part of a stretch of coastal walks from Seaforth to Southport (about 15 miles) with dramatic views across the Mersey Estuary and comprising one of the most extensive and ecologically important coastal and dune systems in Europe.  Yet again, not forgetting Crosby Beach and Ainsdale Beach.
